Using the same old materials of earth, air, fire, and water, every twenty-four hours God creates something new out of them. If you think you’re seeing the same show all over again seven times a week, you’re crazy. Every morning you wake up to something that in all eternity never was before and never will be again. And the you that wakes up was never the same before and will never be the same again either. –Frederick Buechner
May we be open to the NEW thing you are creating in us and around us today. May our eyes be opened to see, our ears be opened to hear, our hearts be opened to move and our calendars be opened to stop and savor the goodness of that which you are creating.
Love all God’s creation,
the whole and every grain of sand in it.
Love every leaf,
every ray of God’s light.
Love the animals,
love the plants,
If you love everything,
you will perceive
the divine mystery of things.
Once you perceive it,
you will begin to comprehend it better every day.
And you will come at last to love the whole world with an all-embracing love.
–Fyodor Dostoyevsky (1821-81)
from The Brothers Karamazov
May our love today be all-embracing so that the love you have given us will spill over upon all those that we meet and your glory will shine through all that we do.
Into your strength, this day,
let me come again —
my heart undivided, my hope undimmed.
Set free my soul, unbind my love,
that I may serve you
–Sam Hamilton Poore
A friend of mine just lost her brother-in-law. He was a physician, helping many others during his life. After having a massive stroke recently, his organs were harvested last night to give life to others, even in the midst of his death.
As I pray for my friend’s family, I pray that we will all consider the gift of life we give beyond ourselves.
For some this is a gift of service.
For some this is a gift of time.
Some feel called to organ donation.
If organ donation is something you feel called to do. Make your wishes known to your family members AND sign up on the Donate Life Texas website.
May we all be about giving the gift of life to one another this day.
There is only one world,
a world that God loves.
Since God loves it,
we not only can but should.
In fact, loving the world (not God alone),
or rather, loving God through loving the world,
is the Christian way.
– Sallie McFague
May our dreams be loving God through loving the world.
We need to find God and God cannot be found in noise and restlessness. God is the friend of silence. See how nature – trees and flowers and grass – grow in silence. See the stars, the moon and the sun,how they move in silence. The more we receive in silent prayer, the more we can give in our active life.
Mother Teresa of Calcutta (1910-97)
Finding silence takes practice, especially in the over-stimilated world in which we live. Take time today to silence your words…your mind…your body. Let your heart be still so your can feel God make your heart move.
Practice every day, extending the time a bit more each day. Empty and still yourself a little more each day, and you will begin to see the blessing of silence. God will is there waiting for you.
May you see many glimpses of God today!
It is always a privilege to participate in a Cursillo/Pilgrimage renewal weekend. Thank you staff and participants of North Texas Presbyterian Pilgrimage #31 for opening yourselves to the goodness of God’s grace upon grace. May continue to fly in the glory of God, with the glory of God, for the glory of God.
If you are interested in finding a closer relationship with God, a 4th Day renewal weekend might be for you. In the Dallas/Fort Worth area check out North Texas Presbyterian Pilgrimage. The next weekend is March 1-4, 2012.
